This is Not a Done Deal!

INDIANA RESIDENTS, CHURCHES, AND BUSINESSES

WHY SHOULD YOU BE CONCERNED ABOUT AN INDIAN RESERVATION CASINO COMING TO ILLINOIS AND WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP?

The proposed site of the reservation casino is only a couple of miles from the Indiana border.  If you think the state line will insulate you as a resident, church or business, you need to understand that this reservation casino will cross all borders in terms of destructive forces.  The area affected by this reservation casino stretches from 30 – 50 miles in a concentric circle from the Lynwood site.  Unlike state run casinos, sovereignty makes a huge impact on businesses and neighbors by creating an unlevel playing field.  This will affect businesses in Indiana, and gambling addictions and their destructive effects will show up in churches and neighborhoods.  Here are the ways in which everyone in Indiana can help:

1.                  Remember, this may be in Illinois, by it is only a couple of miles from Indiana.  You have every right to speak out on this issue to Illinois legislators as well as Indiana legislators.  The more pressure we apply as residents, churches and businesses, the more difficult it will become for the Ho-Chunk to place this casino here.  Write or call legislators, Governors, and local, state and federal government officials and tell them your stance on this issue.  Expressing your extreme opposition does mean something – your voice will be heard!

2.                  Become educated about this issue.  This website is a great place to start, and there are links here that will take you to other information.

3.                  Place pressure on your local town boards to give Citizens for Our Community, Inc. resolutions against this proposed reservation casino project.  This means getting involved by calling, going to board meetings, and letting your local officials know exactly what you expect from them.

4.                  Ask everyone you know to sign a petition against this casino.  Click here to download and print a blank petition form.  Send completed forms back to Citizens for Our Community, Inc.

5.                  Ask your churches for resolutions against this casino – every single church resolution represents many people – this speaks loudly to those in public office.  Click Here for examples of other resolutions.

6.                  Ask the businesses you frequent to get on board, pass out literature, collect signatures on petitions, and most importantly, to give us a resolution against the casino.  Click Here for an example of a business resolution.

7.                  Attend rallies – the next one is scheduled for October 15th at 7:00 P.M.  The more people we have attending these rallies the more pressure we put on legislators through the media.  It isn’t enough simply to be against the casino, you must continue to let media, local, state & federal government representatives know you are not going away.

8.                  Get involved with the work of Citizens for Our Community, Inc.!  Many hands make light work,  and it is a wonderful way to meet new people.

9.                  Support Citizens for Our Community, Inc. with monetary donations.  Advertising, mailing, paper, office supplies, etc., cost money.  We have no other means of support other than our generous contributors.

You see, there is much you can do to help fight this casino.  THIS IS FAR FROM A DONE DEAL!  Don’t wait for someone else to stop this – get involved yourself.  You will be glad you did.
